Joseph Joseph – So good they named it twice!

We love our garlic in the Middle East and I’ve just discovered a peeler that is put to the test up against the classic glass jar trick. Human fingers failed. Check out the vid to see how the Scroll rolls…

What is it?

Looks like a roll of paper but it is what it is. A garlic peeler.

Because just sometimes, you shouldn’t have to work too hard in life for an end result!

Does it perform?

It’s gadgets like these that get me excited about shopping for new kitchenware. This works so well! I had a smile on my face the whole time while peeling and showed it off to anyone who came over to my house this week! The plus side? My fingers didn’t smell like garlic for the whole day and it put the old trick of shaking a clove of garlic in a glass jar to shame.

Do I want it?

Yes! Very badly.

The Scroll Garlic Peeler by Joseph Joseph can be found at Tavola stores across the Middle East.

Old School Pops

I remember when I was a kid, the sight of these frozen popsicles would make me so happy! I just HAD to have one! My favorite flavor was strawberry and it was so junkie that the color would stay on my lips and tongue all day. The high from all the added sugar must have been a pain in the ass for any supervising adult! haha

While shopping at Lakeland in Mall of Emirates, I found these Zipsicles! They come in a pack of 50, and in my opinion can be reusable at least once! I silently squealed to avoid looking like too much of a geak and tossed them in my shopping basket.

The best thing you can do with these ice-cream molds is fill them up with freshly squeezed juice or your own blend of a smoothie. My daughter who is a great eater (knock on wood) loves hers with orange juice and frozen pieces of blueberries! My son, who is a picky eater and one of my biggest challenges I deal with every day, doesn’t like chunks of frozen fruit in his nor does he like vegetables! Little does he know that I blend veggies in his fruit smoothie and he eats it very happily!

What I like about Zipsicles:

  1. Easy for little kiddie hands to hold rather than the alternative popsicle molds with short sticks.
  2. Reusable at least once.
  3. Fun for parties! You can make a big bunch!
  4. The kids LOVE the whole look and mechanism of pushing the popsicle up with every bite!

Some Fruit/Veggie Popsicle ideas to try:

  1. Freshly squeezed Juices: Orange, Apples, Grapes, Carrots, Beets, Coconut water…
  2. Fruits/Veggies to blend: Strawberries, Mango, Avocado, Bananas, Sweet Potate, and more!
  3. Throw in chunks of: Sliced Bananas, Blueberries, Grapes, Raspberries, Strawberries, Kiwi …

Use your imagination and fill these Zipsicles up with pure goodness!

The Kitchen Gadget Jean Georges can’t live without!

I had the opportunity to interview Jean Georges on different topics but the coolest questions of course was what his favorite kitchen gadget was! Hands down, he explained that it’s his “Microplane Grater”. Get your hands on one NOW! It is an awesome tool that was once upon a time used for wood works. Chefs now use it to add extra flavor and/or shavings of fruits, vegetables, spices and anything else your imaginative tummy can think of.

Next time you visit JG Dubai, notice how this technique is used in several of his dishes. It adds that perfect punch of flavor without over doing it.

Confession of a mommy – The Mac Daddy Experience

Confession of a mommy – The Mac Daddy Experience

For those who know me, you know how I feel about McDonalds! After watching several documentaries  (if you haven’t watched them yet, please do!) Food Inc, Super Size Me, and Fed Up. You begin to learn more about the food you once knew wasn’t the best choice but thought it wasn’t the worst choice either. After watching these documentaries, that opinion changed. My purchasing habits towards food completely changed. I am that annoying mom that stands in the middle of the supermarket aisle staring at the back of a box trying to read whether I can find crappy ingredients and how much sugar is included. If I do, I put it back on the shelf, go home and try to make it from scratch.

Back to McDonalds! I haven’t eaten it since 2010 and that was fine up until three weeks ago, I became this McDonalds late night eating monster! I would go out at night to party, and by the middle of the evening I was craving McDonalds (definitely doesn’t help that nothing else is open then!). It happened one night, and my husband happily took me to the drive thru near the house and I ordered a McChicken. He remained faithful and ordered nothing! Just stared at me and laughed.

The next weekend came, mommy party time was over and that damn Mcd’s urge came again! Like WTF! So I did it again and ordered a Spicy McChicken this time! We came home and my husband just sat right opposite of me drinking a protein shake (that’s him being supportive apparently) while I sat there and stuffed my face with a Spicy McChicken.

A few days pass and we decided to have a ladies night out without the men. Party is over and that annoying craving is back again. This time I don’t have my husband to take me to the drive thru so I suggest the idea to my Careem driver and I invite him to a meal as well! Happy, is an understatement on how he felt with my suggestion. So we go to the drive thru, we get our meals and I eat it again! I finally felt like I hit rock bottom and told my girl friends who obviously laughed at me. One of them sent me an article of how bad McDonalds was. I obviously knew and had read it before but for some reason I just couldn’t help myself!

I finally called it quits and decided to create my own homemade McDs Egg McMuffin the following morning! Let me tell you how good it was to not only eat something that good but to know that all the ingredients used were fresh and not treated with any chemicals or substitutes.

When all else fails! Go into your kitchen and make something home made! I have not had a McDonalds craving since then and I don’t think I ever will. Check out my homemade, finger licken Egg McMuffin. Deets below!

To make this double decker Egg Mc Muffin recipe, follow these THREE EASY directions below!

Step 1: Crack your eggs in these awesome molds from Lakeland! Once the eggs cook for one minute, add some water to your pan and cover. The goal is to cook your eggs all around and give them that omelette/sunny side up taste.

Step 2: After two minutes the water should have evaporated, and your eggs would have cooked throughout. Uncover and remove eggs from molds. They will be a perfect circle to fit right into an English Muffin cooked fresh at Spinneys.

Step 3: Lightly toast your muffins, add your bacon, ham, turkey or whatever it is that makes you happy and choose your favorite cheese. I put some good quality Gouda topped with my eggs so the cheese melted perfectly and oozed out of the muffin. THIS WAS SO GOOD! TRY IT AT HOME!

Gourmet Stuffed Burgers

Ok! So this is an awesome little gadget I use when making burgers at home for the fam.  What’s great about it is that you can stuff it with ANYTHING your heart desires AND because it’s stuffed with so much awesomeness, you don’t really need to eat it in between two carb loaded buns anymore. So exciting! I know!

  1. Smear a little oil (any type you prefer, you can go fancy and use truffle oil) so that the burger meat doesn’t stick to either side.
  2. If you want your burger stuffed with vegetables cook them before and release any excess water from them.
  3. Make sure you remember to cup the burger meat around your hands a little to close off the ends properly.

My Favorite Stuffing Recipe for 1 Burger:

  1. I order my meat with an 80/20 ratio. Ask your butcher for cow meat from the shoulder and the remaining 20% fat.
  2. 2 tsp blue cheese
  3. ½ cup of caramelized onions, add garlic towards the end and S&P

Where can you get the burger stuffer gadget from?

I got mine from Bloomingdales Home in Dubai Mall. Always look out for their sales and you’ll get great deals on your home and kitchenware!
